THE PROJECT >

This project which was carried out for a regional aeroclub involved the complete refurbishment of a Cessna 172M Skyhawk. Our team worked on seating, headlinings, side wall linings, and carpets as well as many other small areas of detail that really make this interior stand out.

The colour scheme for this aircraft was comprised of mainly two colours: a dark 'Lead Grey' leather (ADI-1111) and a lighter grey vinyl 'Brooklyn Light Grey' (#04). The dark grey 'Zimmer' carpet floor coverings matched the lead grey leather and were bound with a black mesh binding.

The seating in this Skyhawk consisted of two crew seats and a split-back rear bench seat. Our team went to work stripping the seats back to their metal frames, which we repainted in black. The diaphragms, cushions, and covers were then carefully fitted. Seat covers were made from Lead Grey leather (ADI-1111), which had perforated inserts (SP1 perforation); covers also featured silver double-stitching on their outer seams, which popped against the dark grey background. Finally, each seat back was embossed with a Cessna logo.

The main material used for the sidewall trim panels, as well as the armrests, was Light Grey #04 vinyl. the inserts and pull handles, however, were wrapped in SP1 perforated lead grey leather to match the seats. All plastic components were painted to match the light grey vinyl. The suspended fabric headlining was made from a light grey fabric (F12), which is also matched to the vinyl side walls.

Other detailing and touch up work included applying new black paint to the instrument panel plastics and light grey paint to the sun visors and the door jams. All control yoke bosses were wrapped in black leather and given new placards. To finish things off, the glare shield cover was replaced and given a new black, UV-resistant vinyl wrap.
