THE PROJECT>

One of Cessna’s more iconic models, the 180A Skywagon was a utility aircraft produced from the ‘50s through the early ‘80s. Many continue to be used today, especially in rural or bush settings. For this project, a New Zealand client of ours sent us their 180A seats for refurbishing. All work done was certified via our New Zealand Civil Aviation Authority maintenance approval.

The client sent their seats to Generation Globals Nelson facility - there, each seat was stripped back to its frame and provided with brand new diaphragms, foam cushions, and covers. The process was multi-stepped. New diaphragms were carefully tensioned and then glued into place. Then, foams were attached to the seat bottoms, and, finally, covers were stretched and snuggly fitted over each seat. Click here to see C180 parts on our online shop.

The seat covers were manufactured from Charcoal Grey leather (ADI-1121) for this project. Those covers also included piping on their outsides seams and center inserts that are patterned with horizontal seams on their bases and backs. The famed Cessna insignia was embroidered onto each seatback in a charcoal grey thread (designed to match the logo in the aircraft’s manual). The depth and texture of the stitching on the embroidery really helped the logo stand out.
