THE PROJECT >

This project included Generation Global supplying and installing a new interior for a MD 520 Notar helicopter. The refurbishment included everything from wrapping the interior linings through to the front seating. While the MD 520N can look rudimentary and simplistic , there are many detail parts that need to be fully appreciated. Click here to see the MD 500 series interior parts available on Generation Global’s online shop.

The front seats are made up of individual seat cushions, two outboard and one dickie seat fitted in-between. These are butted together to form a bench seat across the front of the helicopter. The outboard seat cushions have a cut-out between the occupant’s legs to ensure the controls can move uninterrupted. The front seat  upholstery was manufactured in Lead Grey (ADI-1111) aviation leather and include perforated (SP1) inserts and decorative vertical stitch lines. The seats upper backrests have the MD insignia embroidered on in black and red and the outside seats have white double stitching.

The rear seats are the utility sling seats. These are manufactured from a special mesh fabric that is tensioned on to the seat frame. The mesh seat covering is extremely light weight and durable.

All interior trim panels in the helicopter were wrapped in a lightweight synthetic leather. The trim wrapping gives an optimum finish to the panels and the special 3-way stretch product allows the most complex parts to be seamlessly covered. Parts include the bulkhead which divides between the front and rear sections of the cabin. The rear facing bulkhead features two pockets that are manufactured in the same leather as the front seats. The floor coverings were manufactured from a nylon cut pile carpet.
