THE PROJECT >

For this project, our team assisted an Australian maintenance organisation in refurbishing one of their clients’ Robinson R44 helicopters. Parts supplied included new seat upholstery, which was fitted to existing seat pans, control boots, floor coverings, and headlinings.

The seat covers and cushions supplied were the Generation II style. The client sent the existing forward and aft seat pans to Generation Global's New Zealand facility to be fitted. the completed parts were shipped back to the maintenance facility for final installation.

This helicopter’s seat covers used a beautiful saddle brown leather (ADI-4111) and each insert was quilted in the double-diamond quilting pattern. All seat stitching, including the quilting, was done with a thread that matched the leather’s color. And we used the very same saddle brown leather to craft the collective and cyclic control boots.

The floor coverings used coal city carpet. The carpet set is precision cut by a CNC laser cutter into segments that fit into the cockpit floor and surrounds. The edges are finished with a matching mesh binding. The headlining, meanwhile, was made from four panels, which were set into the aircraft’s ceiling. Each panel was wrapped with black headlining fabric. The headlining panels also have cutouts - in this case, a window and the hand holds above the doors.
